The name “Luminosity” has both professional and personal significance. “Luminosity” is an astronomical term describing the innate brightness of a star. I believe our roles as youth and community sector professionals is to work alongside young people and communities to help them uncover their innate brightness for everyone to see. The term also has a personal meaning as my father, who died when I was very young, was an astronomer, so stars and the night sky have always felt special to me.
The different sizes and brightness of the stars represents the diversity of young people that exist in our communities. It reflects the notion of showing all the different ways young people’s innate brightness can shine through (big, small, brighter, softer).
The small dots are the supporters and advocates in the background doing their work creating environments to allow young people to shine and stepping back to create space for their brightness to appear.
The brighter stars represent young people leading their own paths and shining bright.
The organic shapes surrounding reflect the movement and that the path for young people is not linear however organic and authentic to their own experiences. It also reflects community connectedness and the intertwined layers of support needed.
